Ticket #4821Resolved

“The printer is haunted.”

It was toner. It’s always toner.

A friendly monster made of tangled cables hiding under a desk.
Before
A tidy network rack with perfectly combed cables.
After

Sound familiar?

If your IT has a cable monster, we should talk.

Your IT now: Every answer needs a translator.
With us: Plain English. We speak Techanese so you don’t have to.
Your IT now: Their voicemail is full. Since March.
With us: Call, email or send a ticket. A real person gets back to you.
Your IT now: The upgrade is coming “soon.” It’s been soon for a year.
With us: A plan, a date, and a heads-up before anything changes.
Your IT now: The fix lasted until Tuesday.
With us: We find the real cause, then make sure it stays fixed.
Your IT now: Dave left in March. Dave still has email.
With us: Access removed the day they leave. Their files stay put.

Services

Everything your IT department would do.

Advice, projects and day-to-day care from one team that already knows your setup, from the front desk to the server closet.

An office printer in a ghost costume, with a toner cartridge on the floor.

Help desk & everyday IT

Ghostbusting included.

Day-to-day help for your team, remote or on-site: computers, printers, email and “the Wi-Fi is being weird.” Updates and monitoring run quietly in the background, so small problems stay small.

A cloud with email, calendar, documents and a lock orbiting it.

Microsoft 365 & Google Workspace

Your office, in the cloud.

Email, calendars, shared files, licenses and security settings, set up right and tidied up as your team changes.

A ceiling Wi-Fi access point reaching a laptop, a phone and a happy coffee mug.

Wi-Fi & networks (UniFi)

Wi-Fi that reaches the break room.

Access points, switches, gateways and firewalls, VLANs and site-to-site VPNs. Planned, installed and kept up to date.

A security camera in a detective hat watching a door with a card reader.

Cameras, doors & phones

Always on the lookout.

UniFi Protect cameras, UniFi Access door entry and UniFi Talk phones.

A small server rack wearing a hard hat.

Servers & storage

Tune-up or retirement party?

Windows Server and Active Directory, file shares and NAS storage, kept patched and documented.

A laptop and backup drive parachuting onto a cushion.

Backups & recovery

A soft landing.

Server and computer backups with test restores, so “we have backups” is a fact, not a hope.

A truck carrying files and email across a bridge from an old server to the cloud.

Migrations

Moving day, minus the heavy lifting.

From Google, Dropbox, another Microsoft 365 or an old server. We pack, move and unpack.

Most clients start with

Managed IT & Security

Help desk, monitoring, patching, threat protection and multi-factor sign-in for every person and device, on one predictable monthly plan. Projects too: office moves, new hires, hardware refreshes, network upgrades and honest advice before you spend money.

A shield bouncer checking a laptop and phone before letting them through the door.

Security & compliance

Security that checks ID at the door.

Zero Trust means every sign-in, device and app has to prove it belongs, every time. Think of it as a very polite bouncer for your business.

  • Prove it’s you. Multi-factor sign-in with number matching, so “just tap approve” attacks fail.
  • Only what you need. People get the access their job needs. Nothing extra.
  • Healthy devices only. Company data opens only on updated, encrypted, protected devices.
  • Always watching. Threat protection and alerts on every device.

Regulated? We’ve done this before.

We support clients in healthcare, financial services and retail. We set up and document the technical safeguards, and work alongside your compliance officer or auditor.

Training

Don’t take the bait.

Short, practical security awareness training with simulated phishing, plus how to use AI tools like Copilot and ChatGPT safely.

Onboarding & offboarding

First day, last day. Both handled.

People changes are where IT gets messy. We make them boring. The good kind of boring.

A new laptop with a bow on one side; a packed box and a locked laptop on the other.

First day

  • Accounts, email and logins ready before their coffee is.
  • Laptop and phone set up, secured and enrolled.
  • The right licenses and access. Nothing extra.
  • A quick hello, so they know how to reach us.

Last day

  • Access off the day they leave. Not three months later.
  • Mailbox and files preserved and handed to the right person.
  • Licenses reclaimed, so you stop paying for them.
  • Devices wiped, reset and ready for the next person.

Send us a heads-up or a ticket and we take it from there.

Websites

Websites that don’t look like 2020.

We design, build and host websites in-house, then keep them updated, secure and backed up. For bigger builds, we bring in trusted partners with a proven track record.

How we work

Three house rules.

  1. 1

    Plain English, always.

You’ll know what happened, what we did and what it means for you. No eye-rolls, no dumb questions.

  2. 2

    Finished means finished.

If we say Tuesday, it’s Tuesday. We don’t close the ticket until it actually works.

  3. 3

    It’s your stuff.

Everything stays documented, and your admin passwords stay yours. No hostage situations.

The Lab

Try it yourself.

Seven free tools we use with clients. New experiments every quarter.

Is your website exposed to PHP2Shell?

PHP2Shell is a pair of critical flaws in PHP, the language behind WordPress and most small-business websites. The fixes came out on October 21, 2026. Until a site’s server has them, an attacker could take it over without a password.

We look at the public site the way a browser does. We never try the attack. Nothing you type is saved.

In WordPress: Tools → Site Health → Info → Server → PHP version. Or ask the web host.

Type a website. You’ll get a plain answer: patched, at risk, or how to find out.

Is your email easy to fake?

Anyone can put your company’s name on an email, the same way anyone can write your return address on an envelope. Three free settings let Gmail and Outlook tell the real you from a fake:

  • SPFThe guest list. Which servers are allowed to send email as you.
  • DKIMThe tamper seal. Proves each email really came from you and wasn’t changed on the way.
  • DMARCThe bouncer’s instructions. What to do with fakes (let in, spam or turn away), plus reports on who’s trying.

We only read public DNS records. Nothing you type is saved.

Why should I care?
  • Fake invoices stop at the door. Scammers can’t send “updated bank details” from your domain to your customers.
  • Your real email reaches the inbox. Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook check these settings, and mail that fails them is more likely to land in spam.
  • You see who’s pretending to be you, before it costs anyone money.

Your grade shows up here, with what each setting means and what to fix.

Is your website wearing its seatbelt?

We look at your home page once, the way a browser does, and grade what’s on show: the padlock, the certificate, the safety settings browsers look for, and whether your software versions are hanging out in public.

It also checks for PHP2Shell, the critical PHP flaw fixed on October 21, 2026. PHP runs WordPress and most small-business websites.

One visit to the public home page. We never log in, guess passwords or try to break in. Nothing you type is saved.

Your grade shows up here, with what each part means and what to fix.

Who’s really holding your domain?

Your domain is the key to your website and email. See when it expires, whether it’s locked against transfers, and which lookalikes someone has already registered.

Shopping for a new one? Type a name instead, like Drip and Dash, and we’ll see which endings are free.

We read public registry records and DNS. Nothing you type is saved.

Expiry, lock and lookalikes show up here. Or, for a name, which endings are free.

Would you pass the cyber-insurance questionnaire?

Before they’ll cover ransomware or wire fraud, insurers ask some version of these ten questions. Answer honestly. Nothing leaves your browser.

  1. Does everyone sign in to email with multi-factor (a code or an app prompt), not just a password?
  2. Is multi-factor also required for remote access and every admin account?
  3. Does every computer and server have threat protection that someone actually monitors (not just free antivirus)?
  4. Is there a backup copy ransomware can’t reach: offline, locked, or in a separate account?
  5. Have you test-restored from that backup in the last 12 months?
  6. Do security updates install within about 30 days, on computers that still get them?
  7. Do people work from everyday accounts, with admin rights only when needed?
  8. Does your team get security training, with practice phishing emails, at least once a year?
  9. Do you confirm every change to bank or payment details by phone, using a number you already had?
  10. If you were hacked tomorrow, is it written down who to call and what to do first?

Your readiness score

0/100

Answer the ten questions to see where you stand.

“Not sure” counts as no, because that’s how insurers read it. This isn’t an insurance application or advice, and every insurer asks a little differently.

Phish or legit?

Five messages like the ones that land in real inboxes. Decide, then see the tells.

Microsoft 365 Security <[email protected]>

Action required: your password expires today

Your Microsoft 365 password expires in 2 hours. Keep your current password to avoid losing access to email.

Phish.

  • The sender is micros0ft with a zero, not Microsoft.
  • A countdown (“2 hours”) is there to rush you.
  • The button goes to a site that isn’t microsoft.com.

Jordan Ellis (CEO) <[email protected]>

Quick favor, are you at your desk?

I’m in back-to-back meetings. I need five $200 gift cards for a client thank-you today. Buy them and send me the codes. I’ll pay you back. Keep this between us for now.

Phish.

  • The “CEO” is writing from a personal Gmail address.
  • Gift cards, urgency and secrecy together are the classic scam.
  • Check by calling the real person at a number you already have.

Microsoft Authenticator (on your phone)

Are you trying to sign in? Enter the number shown to sign in.

You just typed your password into Outlook on your new work laptop. The laptop screen shows the number 42, and your phone asks you to enter it.

Legit.

  • You started the sign-in, and the number on your screen matches.
  • That number match is what stops attackers who have your password.
  • If a prompt ever shows up when you didn’t just sign in: deny it and call us.

Accounts Receivable <[email protected]>

Updated banking details for invoice #4471

Our bank has changed. Please send this month’s payment to the new account in the attached PDF. The old account will be closed Friday.

Phish.

  • Changed bank details by email is the most expensive scam small businesses face.
  • The sender’s domain is close to your vendor’s, but not theirs.
  • Always confirm payment changes by phone, using a number from an old invoice.

TMT Help Desk <[email protected]>

Reminder: scheduled maintenance tonight at 9pm

As we discussed on Tuesday, we’re updating the office firewall tonight from 9 to 10pm. Internet may drop for a few minutes. Nothing for you to do. Questions? Call 971-200-5061.

Legit.

  • It matches something you already heard about.
  • It asks you to do nothing: no link, no login, no payment.
  • The contact number is the one you already know.

FAQ

Good questions.

Don’t see yours? Call or text 971-200-5061.

Is it a hassle to switch IT providers?

Not for you. We handle the handoff with your current provider, document everything we find and fix the urgent issues first. Most people just notice things working better.

What areas do you serve?

We’re based in Clackamas, Oregon and work on-site across the Portland metro area. Most day-to-day support happens remotely, so we also support clients outside Oregon.

What are your support hours?

7am to 5pm Pacific time. Emergency and on-call support is available on request.

Do you work with businesses under HIPAA, FINRA or PCI?

Yes. We support clients in healthcare, financial services and retail. We set up and document the technical safeguards those rules require, and we work alongside your compliance officer or auditor.

What is Zero Trust, in plain English?

It means nothing gets access just because it’s “inside the office.” Every sign-in needs a second factor, people only get the access their job needs, and company data only opens on healthy, protected devices.

Do you train staff?

Yes. Short, practical security awareness training with simulated phishing, plus hands-on help using AI tools like Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT safely.

Do you build websites?

Yes. We design, build and host websites in-house, and keep them updated, secure and backed up. For bigger builds, we bring in trusted partners with a proven track record.

Do you work with UniFi?

Yes: UniFi Wi-Fi, switches, gateways and firewalls, Protect cameras, Access door entry and Talk phones. We plan it, install it and keep it updated.

Tyler MeltonFounder

About

Meet Tyler.

Tyler grew up in his family’s business, the third generation of it, so he knows what it takes to keep a small company running, and he brings a will-do attitude to every job.

His IT career started in 2002 as the assistant, then administrator, at a small manufacturer. He started TMT in 2007 to keep looking after them, and they stayed a client until the owners closed the business in 2025. Along the way he worked at Best Buy’s Geek Squad, ran an online rare coin shop (website and shopping cart included), and went full-time with TMT in 2012.

Today TMT is a small team, and everyone we add works the same way.

Fun fact: he still asks “have you tried restarting it?” But only after he’s already checked.
